City Officials now backing up on proposed knife ban

Breaking News

Word just in- it appears the people, and common sense, have prevailed. For the last several weeks CNJ has been following the Worcester, Mass. City Council’s attempt to ban knives over 1.5.”

Today’s Worcester Telegram & Gazette News reports the changes proposed by City Manager Michael O’Brien no longer makes it a criminal offense to carry a knife. He has also changed the length to 2.5″ in order to be governed.

Another interesting note- it appears if you have a firearm license you are exempt from the law all together (sounds to me like the City will end up with a “knife” license law before it is over). Kind of makes you wonder if the intent behind this law was to bring in new revenue anyway.

The original proposal would have made it illegal to carry a knife with a blade longer than 1.5 inches and carried a $300 fine.

We’ll continue to follow the saga here and report back on any new developments.
