While at Parker’s Knife Show this past weekend, I had a chance to chat with Ryan Daniels, Sales Manager of Great Eastern Cutlery of Titusville, Pa. They produce high quality knives from vintage patterns and he takes a minute to share a few of their knives with us.

Great Eastern specializes in collectible and premium pocket, hunting and kitchen knives. Their brands include Tidioute Cutlery, Northfield Un-X-LD and Great Eastern Cutlery.

Ryan invited us to come up and tour their factory in Titusville. When you are up in their area, give him a call and see their knives made first-hand.

Knife of choice among rock climbers here in Alabama

Surely you didn’t think I would go out in the field and not do a little checking around as to the type of knife Boulderers (the participants of Bouldering) use, did you?

Here is what I learned while in a big outdoor shop in Birmingham, where all the guys working there are into Bouldering. The number one seller among the sport, at least according to their knives sales, is the Montu made by Columbia River Knife and Tool Company.

I wanted let you know I did ask around, because I doubted those around me climbing rocks carried an Elephant Toenail, and I heard you snicker when you read I had carried mine.

Custom Jumbo Swellcenter

Over the last month knifemaker Jeff Claiborne has provided us with a photo journal of a knife he was making. It is finished now and probably on its way to its new owner as we speak.

While I don’t normally keep up with knives as they are being made, this one is one of my personal favorites and since we are “fair and balanced” here at CNJ (meaning we like all “things that go cut”- to borrow a phrase from our good friends at the Oregon Knife Collectors Association- regardless of whether they are old or new), I thought you would appreciate the beauty of this work of art.

Needless to say, if you know anything about me, you know elephant toenails are my all time favorite vintage pattern. I promise to keep 99% of my toenail writings limited to our sister site, but just couldn’t resist sharing this one with you.

Top of the Line- Leatherman

Del Ray Design

As reported in Newsweek recently, Master artist/ silversmith Adrian Pallarol has come up with the Leatherman Charge Del Ray. This luxury pocketknife sports a wide array of tools and knives inside its golden arms, and is engraved with 18-karat Andes gold on its handles. It celebrates Leatherman’s 25th Anniversary. Only 25 will be produced, for $40,000 each. Better get your reservation in early as each knife is serialized and at that price who’d want #2 or higher.
